UTB Unveils Two Gorilla Sculptures at Entebbe Airport Uganda

The Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) has unveiled two striking gorilla sculptures at Entebbe International Airport, marking a major step in the country’s efforts to showcase its unique wildlife heritage to the world. The sculptures, strategically positioned at both the Arrivals and Departures sections of Uganda’s main international gateway, are part of UTB’s destination branding campaign to enhance the visibility of Uganda’s rich natural attractions.

According to UTB, the gorilla sculptures serve as a powerful visual welcome for visitors arriving in Uganda and a memorable send-off for those departing. The initiative highlights Uganda’s status as home to more than half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas. This distinction has made the country a global hotspot for gorilla trekking experiences, particularly in Bwindi Impenetrable and Mgahinga Gorilla National Parks.

The campaign is designed not only to promote gorilla tourism but also to invite travelers to explore the broader diversity of Uganda’s natural wonders. For departing travelers, the sculptures offer a final, photo-worthy moment, while arriving visitors are greeted with an artistic symbol of Uganda’s commitment to conservation and sustainable tourism.

UTB’s move underscores the importance of tourism in Uganda’s economy and the central role that wildlife, especially the iconic mountain gorilla, plays in attracting international visitors. The new installations are expected to boost awareness and inspire more travelers to discover the “Pearl of Africa” and its world-renowned gorilla trekking adventures.

About Gorilla Trekking In Uganda

Gorilla trekking in Uganda is a once-in-a-lifetime adventure that takes visitors deep into the lush forests of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, the only two destinations in the country where you can encounter endangered mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. Trekkers join small guided groups, hiking through challenging terrain to spend a magical hour observing a habituated gorilla family-an experience that not only supports conservation but also provides vital income for local communities and park protection.

To participate, every traveler must secure a gorilla trekking permit, which is issued by the Uganda Wildlife Authority. As of 2024, a standard permit costs $800 for foreign non-residents, with lower rates for East African citizens and residents. Permits can be booked directly through the Uganda Wildlife Authority or a trusted tour operator like Mumwe Global Safaris, and it is highly recommended to reserve well in advance, especially for peak travel seasons, due to limited daily availability.
