Detailed itinerary of the Bwindi safari

Day 1: Transfer from Kampala to Bwindi

Due to the park’s distant location, the trip starts early morning; the safari guide picks you up from the lodge after breakfast, head westwards and stopover briefly at the equator crossing in Kayabwe, then proceed to the southwestern side of Uganda. Lunch is enjoyed at a hotel in Mbarara town enroute the journey and on arrival at the lodge at the destination, check-in, freshen up, have dinner and rest.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking and transfer to Lake Bunyonyi

Rise up early for breakfast, get your lunch packed plus all the requirements for the trek and transfer to the park offices where the trekking starts. After briefing about the rules of the park regarding gorilla trekking, you are allocated to different gorilla families in groups of 8 and led by a ranger into the forest. The search for the endangered primates can last for 1-6 hours depending on where they are roaming and once they are spotted, trekkers are allowed to spend an hour watching them. After the trek, get back to the park offices for your certificates. If the trek ends early, you can head for a community walk to meet the Batwa pygmies and learn about their stories and culture. Then transfer to Bunyonyi for the overnight.

Day 3: Canoe ride on Lake Bunyonyi and return to Kampala

Rise up and prepare for a canoe ride on Lake Bunyonyi. The adventure takes you exploring the dotted lake with over 20 islands, bordered by terraced hills and the cruise offers breathtaking views of the Virunga volcanoes. After the boat ride on a canoe, embark on the return journey to Kampala. The driver drops you at your lodge in Kampala or Entebbe or at the airport.
