Bwindi Clinches Third Best Adventure Destination Worldwide
Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – November 12, 2025 – Uganda’s commitment to conservation and sustainable tourism received a powerful global endorsement last night as Bwindi Impenetrable National Park was ranked the Third Best Adventure Destination in the World at the prestigious TOURISE Global Tourism Awards gala in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The recognition firmly places the UNESCO World Heritage Site on the global map of elite adventure travel, positioning it alongside world icons. Bwindi followed only Ancash in Peru and the Galápagos Islands in Ecuador, which took the first and second spots respectively, in the highly competitive “Best Adventure Destination” category.
A Win for Conservation-Led Tourism
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, famed for sheltering nearly half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas, was celebrated for its extraordinary blend of pristine biodiversity and immersive, conservation-driven visitor experiences.

Professor James Kalema, Chairman of the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) Board of Trustees, emphasized the significance of the award. “This accolade is a powerful endorsement of Uganda’s commitment to conservation-led tourism,” said Prof. Kalema. “Bwindi demonstrates how protecting nature can create meaningful adventure experiences while empowering communities and sustaining national development.”1
The park’s signature gorilla trekking experi2ence, which draws thousands of visitors annually, involves a demanding hike through dense, misty rainforest—a true adventure that provides vital funding for conservation and local community development.
Elevating the Pearl of Africa
The TOURISE Global Tourism Awards honor destinations that exemplify innovation, sustainability, and exceptional visitor experiences, setting the new global standard for responsible travel.

Dr. James Musinguzi, UWA Executive Director, lauded the achievement as a reflection of the hard work on the ground. “This global ranking is an inspiration to all of us who work daily to protect Uganda’s natural treasures,” he stated. “It proves that our model of conservation-based tourism is delivering results—conserving biodiversity, uplifting communities, and strengthening Uganda’s global image as the Pearl of Africa.”
The success at the TOURISE Summit underscores Uganda’s growing influence and visibility as a world-class adventure destination that successfully balances ecological preservation with economic benefit.
