Arnold & Tyra’s Epic 8-Day Uganda Safari With Medi
By Medi Mugerwa – Driver & Safari Guide
There is a specific kind of magic that happens when the dust of the savannah meets the mist of the rainforest. This April, I had the pleasure of guiding Arnold and Tyra Araujo on an eight-day journey through the heart of Uganda—an expedition that took us from the shores of Lake Victoria to the dense jungles of Bwindi.
Primates and Peace in Kibale

Our Uganda safari adventure began in Entebbe, striking west toward the lush landscapes of Kibale National Park. For our first two nights, we called the Kibale Tourist Safari Lodge home. The Araujos were immediately struck by the hospitality; between the exquisite local cuisine and the attentive staff, it was the perfect “soft landing” into the Ugandan wilderness. The air here, thick with the scent of tropical flora, set the stage for the adventures to come.
The Wild Plains of Queen Elizabeth
From the forest, we transitioned to the vast savannahs of Queen Elizabeth National Park. We stationed ourselves at Wild Tracks Overland Camp, a spot that perfectly balances rugged adventure with comfort.

Nature was feeling generous during our two-day stay. Arnold and Tyra were treated to a parade of wildlife, spotting everything from prowling predators to massive herds of elephants. There is nothing quite like watching the sun dip below the horizon at Wild Tracks after a successful day of game drives.

A Meeting with Giants

The emotional heart of the trip lay in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. We stayed at the Rushaga Gorilla Lodge, a beautiful base for what many call a life-changing experience: Gorilla Tracking.
“Seeing the gorillas in their natural habitat is something you can’t describe—you have to feel it.” — The Araujos reflecting on their Bwindi experience.
The lodge provided the perfect sanctuary for us to rest our legs and recount the incredible moments spent just meters away from the mountain gorillas.
Getting Close to Nature at Lake Mburo
As we began our loop back toward the city, we stopped at Lake Mburo National Park. This leg of the trip was defined by intimacy with nature. Staying at Hyena Hill Lodge, we ventured out for a guided nature walk.

It was a photographer’s dream; Arnold and Tyra managed to capture stunning close-up photos with giraffes and zebras, experiencing the wild on foot rather than from behind a car window.
The Final Stretch: A Taste of Local Life
On our final day, as we headed toward the Kampala Sheraton Hotel, we decided to skip the standard tourist stops for something more authentic. We pulled over in Lukaya for a true Ugandan roadside experience. At a local restaurant, we sat down to a traditional meal, sharing stories of the past week over local flavors—the perfect bookend to an African safari.

From the deep canopy of Kibale to the vibrant streets of Kampala, it was an honor to show Arnold and Tyra the beauty of my country. Uganda didn’t just show them animals; it showed them a soul.
